Overview

Users may need to confirm whether Serv-U relies on Java on the client side or server side, especially when assessing Java-related vulnerabilities or planning to remove Java from the server.

Resolution

Starting from Serv-U 15.5.2, the legacy Java-based web clients were removed and replaced by the new Serv-U Client, so the product no longer depends on Java.

Serv-U historically used Java only for legacy web client components (FTP Voyager JV and Web Client Pro) when accessed in a browser; the core Serv-U service itself was never Java-based.

If users are running Serv-U 15.5.2 or later (including 15.5.4)

Serv-U does not require Java on either the server side or the client side.

Note:

To eliminate the Java dependency, plan an upgrade to Serv-U 15.5.2 or later, where those Java-based clients have been removed and replaced with the Serv-U Client.
Before uninstalling Java, verify that no other applications on the same server require it.
