"Send SNMP Trap" execution fails for NPM

An error message is received when executing a test of the "Send SNMP Trap" alert in NPM.

Overview

When simulating an execution test of the "Send SNMP Trap" alert trigger action, the following error message is received and the test fails:
 execution has failed. System.Exception: Couldn't load Orion-Detailed-Alert!
This message is found in the following NPM logfiles:
  • \ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Orion\ActionsExecutionAlert.log
  • \ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Orion\Alerting.Service.V2.log
  • \ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Orion\Core.BusinessLayer.log\

Cause

Orion is unable to locate or access the following files:
  • \Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Common\Orion-Detailed-Alert.trap
  • \Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Common\Orion-Generic-Alert.trap

Resolution

  1. Verify all permissions are set correctly on the above folders and any antivirus exclusions are set appropriately. See Files and directories to exclude from antivirus scanning for Orion Platform products.
  2. If Step 1 does not resolve this issue, copy the following files to your SolarWinds program directory \Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\:
    • \Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Common\Orion-Detailed-Alert.trap
    • \Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Common\Orion-Generic-Alert.trap
  3. Restart all Orion services.
  4. If the issue persists, contact SolarWinds technical support for further assistance.
