Security error when starting HTTP/HTTPS in Serv-U

Serv-U users receive the following error message when logging on to the Serv-U web page. "SECURITY ERROR: Serv-U application security check failed. Please re-install Serv-U to correct the error." occurs when Serv-U HTTP/HTTPS services stops running.

Overview

The Serv-U HTTP/HTTPS services stop running, with users receiving a following error when logging on to the web page.

SECURITY ERROR: Serv-U application security check failed. Please re-install Serv-U to correct the error.

Cause

The Serv-U application file(s) have been modified in an unauthorized fashion, causing instability in the HTTP/HTTPS service. To ensure the security of the server, the HTTP/HTTPS service has shut down.

The “Remember me” text was white and would not display so he changed the text color to black, the issue started after applying this edit.

The customer edited the Login.htm file found in this directory: “C:\Program Files\RhinoSoft\Serv-U\Client\Web Client\” for rebranding/customization purpose.

Resolution

This can be resolved by reinstalling Serv-U, which will replace the modified files with the secure original versions.
