Scheduled email report attachments fail when a PerfStack page is exported to PDF in the SolarWinds Platform

Scheduled email report attachments can fail with an error similar to Unable to retrieve url: https://<server>/Orion/Report.aspx?ReportID=<id> using PDF type when the configured action ultimately tries to export a legacy PerfStack page to PDF. A reboot of the Orion server may temporarily restore normal behavior, but the issue can return after the stuck PDF export processes accumulate again.

Cause

The stuck ExportToPdfCmd.exe processes were all related to converting the same legacy PerfStack page to PDF.

The issue occurs because the action points to the legacy PerfStack page (/ui/perfstack), while the PDF conversion component can get stuck during the redirect to the newer Fusion-based PerfStack page (/apps/perfstack).

Resolution

This issue will be addressed in a future release of the SolarWinds Platform. In the meantime, use the workaround below.

  1. Identify the alert action, schedule, or email web page action that uses a legacy PerfStack URL.

  2. Edit the action configuration.

  3. Replace /ui/perfstack with /apps/perfstack in the page URL.

  4. Save the changes.

  5. Reboot the SolarWinds Platform server to terminate the stuck PDF export processes.

  6. Test the scheduled delivery again and confirm the PDF attachment is generated successfully.
