SNMP and ICMP in Network Performance Monitor
NPM uses Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) to poll devices for response time and status, with the option of calculating node availability based on that status. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used to poll for performance statistics. SNMP and ICMP polls are conducted on independent schedules for nodes, interfaces, and volumes, all using independent timers that are set on the Orion Polling Settings.

Overview
This article provides brief information and steps to configure Polling settings. NPM uses Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) to poll devices for response time and status, with the option of calculating node availability based on that status. To configure SNMP and ICMP polling settings:
- Log in to the Orion Web Console as an administrator.
- Click Settings > All Settings.
- In the Thresholds & Polling group, click Polling Settings.
Note: ICMP timers are listed under Polling Intervals section, and SNMP timers are listed under Polling Statistics Intervals section.
