SEM Upgrade Recovery CD Process
This article will provide the step by step guide for the Boot ISO as a part of SEM upgrade process which is needed to make sure your current SEM has no issue before upgrading. Recovery CD does will update the certificates when upgrading.

Overview
Bootable upgrade ISO that will be applied on all supported SEM versions to fix the certificate expired issue so that customers can upgrade:
Steps:
- Attach Recovery ISO to your SEM VM Guest to be mounted on Boot and boot from ISO
- The script in the iso will import the new generated key with the same private and secret private keys
- Once the certificate is fixed, it will tell the customer to turn off the upgrade hotfix iso.
- Continue with the upgrade as usual.

Cause
Upgrading from 2020.4 and below will need to run the recovery iso first, this will replace the old certificate with a new one.
Example:
2020.4 > [apply boot.iso] > 2021.2.1 > [apply boot.iso] 2022.4
- These ones would not need the boot.iso
- above 2022.4
Resolution
Download the Upgrade Recover ISO:
SolarWinds-SEM-2022.4-Recovery-CD.iso
Located Here:
1. Download and Mount the Recovery ISO on SEM VM's Virtual DVD drive
2. Reboot the SEM VM via attached Recovery ISO
3. After Recovery CD is Done
*Note* If your SEM has issue, it will be shown here and follow the steps to fix it
4. Eject the Recovery ISO
5. To Boot to SEM and Continue upgrade: Action > Ctrl+Alt+Delete
Steps for Booting via Recovery ISO in VMware
- Shut down SEM and Mount Recovery ISO on SEM VM's Virtual DVD drive
- Make sure connect at boot option is ticked.
- Make sure to select Boot into the Virtual Machine BIOS or in VM's guest Settings page
- Change boot order to "boot CD-ROM" first
- Save changes and exit the BIOS
- Reboot VM
- The SolarWinds-SEM-2022.2.1-Recovery-CD will run upon boot.
- Power Off VM
- Remove ISO from Virtual DVD drive
- Power On VM
- Continue the Upgrade Process
