SEM - Install the SEM Agent with a Custom Java version

This article explains how to install the SEM Agent with a custom version of Java.

Overview

If you find that the version of Java included with the SEM Agent is not suitable for your environment, you can install it with a custom version of Java using the procedure in this article.

Download the Custom Java Agent

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal.
  2. Click Downloads > Download Product.
  3. Click the Products drop-down menu and select Security Event Manager (SEM), formerly Log & Event Manager (LEM).
  4. Click the Licenses drop-down menu and select your license tier.
  5. Scroll down to Agent Downloads and locate Local Agent Installer.
  6. Click the drop-down menu for the Local Agent Installer and select the proper operating system and "customJava" edition for your agent. 
  7. Click Download. 
  8. Review the information in the pop-up window, and click Finish Download. 

Deploy the Custom Java Agent

  1. On the targeted machine you want to deploy to, install the Java version you want to use. SolarWinds recommends https://adoptopenjdk.net/ as a source. The JRE edition is all that you need.
