SCCM error when synchronizing third party updates to WSUS

This article addresses an SCCM error that occurs when synchronizing third party updates published to WSUS using Patch Manager. Error message: The SCCM certificate validation failed.

Overview

When you use the Patch Manager Admin Console to synchronize third party updates to WSUS, SCCM generates the following error: 

The SCCM certificate validation failed for said third party update.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Patch Manager Admin Console.
  2. In the navigation pane, expand Enterprise > Update Services > Your_WSUS_Server > Updates and select Third Party Updates.

  3. In the center pane, delete all updates with issues. 
  4. Expand Administration and Reporting > Software Publishing.

  5. Locate the problem update.
  6. Right click the problematic update and select Publish Package. 
  7. In the Packages to Publish window, select Re-sign existing selected packages, and click Next.

  8. Complete the wizard.
  9. Resync WSUS with SCCM.
