Overview

When running Web Help Desk and IIS on the same server, it causes port conflict and either one of those applications may not be able to run properly. The only way to run the Web Help Desk and IIS on the same machine without a port conflict is to use multiple IP addresses on the machine. Web Help Desk can also be run on different a port and it can be set via whd.conf file.

Resolution

Important: Specify IIS to listen on the IP that the Web Help Desk is not using in the IP_ADDRESS option of whd.conf

  1. Edit C:\Program Files\WebHelpDesk\conf\whd.conf.
  2. Set DEFAULT_PORT and HTTPS_PORT accordingly.
  3. Set the IP_ADDRESS option to the target IP, if the server is using multiple network interfaces

Note: You must bind IIS to a different IP. IIS listens on all IPs, even if your site is set to use a specific IP.
