Report operating system and .NET versions on polling engines in the Orion Platform
Using the Active Diagnostics, you can run a test to find out whether .NET Framework versions and operating systems on your polling engines are the same.

Overview
Non-matching versions of .Net Framework as well as operating systems across multi-engine deployment may cause Orion Platform to operate incorrectly. To find out whether .Net Framework versions and operating systems on polling engines are the same you can use Active Diagnostics and run tests located under "Additional Poller/Additional Website" section.

Requirements for running the test
- The remote registry is enabled on engines
- All engines are in the same domain
- The logged-in user has access to the registry
If these requirements are not met, the test cannot determine .Net Framework versions. In that case, the test status reflects only the OS versions check.
If OS versions are the same, the test is successful. If not, the test displays a warning.
Run tests in the Orion Web Console (Deployment Health)
You can verify OS and .NET Framework versions directly in the Orion Web Console. In Deployment Health, there are two separate tests:
- Check .Net Framework version on Scalability Engines
- Checking whether OS on engines match
To view the test results:
-
Log in to your Orion Web Console using an account with administrator privileges.
-
Click Settings > My Orion Deployment.
-
Click Deployment Health tab. By default, only problems and potential issues are displayed. If you cannot see either of the tests, both .Net Framework and OS versions on polling engines match.
-
To see more details, find the tests. You might need to clear the Severity Filters.
-
To re-run a test, select it and click Refresh.
-
To see results of the test, click the arrow at the end of the test row.
-

Run the Active Diagnostics app
-
Log in to the server hosting your main polling engine.
-
Start SolarWinds Active Diagnostics (Start > SolarWinds Orion > SolarWinds Active Diagnostics).
-
Select Scan for known or potential issues in my environment.
-
Expand Additional Poller/Additional Website, and select Check .Net Framework version on Scalability Engines and Check whether the OS on engines match.
-
Click Scan for Known Defects.
A warning result of the test indicates that your Orion Platform might be affected by the following issues:
- Issues with different versions of Orion libraries (DLLs)
- Issues upon upgrade
- Issues with nodes editing in case latest Windows updates are not synchronized on all polling engines
If the test finishes with a warning, install all latest Microsoft updates.
If the test finishes with a warning after an upgrade, consider deploying polling engines on servers with the same operating system.
To resolve issues with editing nodes, follow the steps in Unexpected website error when editing nodes in Orion Platform.
