If you are polling a node and encounter this error message, create a backup of the entry and contact your system administrator before making changes to the registry.

Error message: This error indicates a null value is returned or that the performance counters are missing.

If you wish to proceed, the first step is to click on the 'Windows Key' and select 'Run.'

Type 'regedit' and navigate to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfProc\Performance

On the registry entry, search for 'Disable Performance Counters' and if you find the key, make sure the value is not 1. You can change the value to 0 or, if you have permissions, simply delete the entry. In this case, the key is not there and this is usually the default value.

The next step is to rebuild the performance counters.

To do this, open a command prompt as an administrator on the target server (NOT the Orion server) and enter these commands one at a time.

This step will reload both 32-bit and 64-bit counters.

These commands will re-synchronize the counters and will not affect the performance of the machine.

Command lines:

cd %windir%\system32\
lodctr /R
cd %windir%\sysWOW64\
lodctr /R

Now, go back and poll the node again and see if you get the expected result.
