Overview

RabbitMQ is a common messaging component used across many platforms, including SolarWinds Orion Platform. While it is essential to have it installed on the Primary Polling Engine it is not required and not installed on Scalability Engines (Additional Polling Engine, Additional Web Server). Its presence on Scalability Engines may cause communication issues.

Orion Platform, during upgrade, also upgrades RabbitMQ but only on the Primary Polling Engine, hence versions installed on the Scalability Engines may differ.

It may also come as a component of some other application installed on the same server as Orion Platform modules, and its version may also differ from the one installed on the Primary Polling Engine.

Cause

Potential communication issues between Scalability Engines and Primary Polling Engine.

Resolution

If there is no other application which requires RabbitMQ on the Scalability Engine you can simply uninstall it through the Programs and Features.

If it is required by other application additional consideration has to be put in place, including moving colliding application to a different server.
