Prevent removal of disappeared access points in NPM by updating the RemoveDisappearedAPs setting

This article shows how to prevent wireless access points that disappear from being automatically removed from the database in NPM. This involves updating the RemoveDisappearedAPs setting.

Overview

By default, wireless access points that disappear are removed from the database. This means that they cannot be alerted by Orion Alerts. This article describes how to change this behavior by implementing the following configuration change to prevent wireless access points from being deleted from the database.

To prevent wireless access points from being deleted from the database.

  • Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. 
    • Access the Centralized Settings Feature by adding the following data to the URL:
      /Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx
      For example: http://<server_name>:8787/Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx
    • Select the Global tab to apply the setting to all servers, or select a specific server.
    • Locate the RemoveDisappearedAPs setting and uncheck the box (checked = True, unchecked = False).
    • Click Save.
  • Disable High Availability if you have HA enabled. 
  • Using Windows Services or SolarWinds Platform Service Manager:
    • Restart SolarWinds services on all polling engines (MPE & APEs).
  • Enable High Availability once all services restarted.
