Poll serial numbers for Cisco Stack switches in the SolarWinds Platform

This article provides steps on how to poll serial number for Cisco Stack Switches which are not polled out of the box.

Overview

For Cisco Devices, Serial Number is associated with OIDs and if such information is unavailable - It needs to be further consulted with the vendor to successfully poll it through UnDP.

Example OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1.26 or OID:  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.3.6.3
 

Description: The serial number of the module. This MIB object will return the module serial number for any module that is either a numeric or an alphanumeric serial number is being used.
 

How to create a UnDP
 

  1. Connect to the SolarWinds Platform server.
  2. Open Universal Device Poller from the SolarWinds Platform folder of the Start Menu.
  3. Select New Universal Device Poller.
  4. If you know the OID of the device that you want to monitor, put it in the OID field. Otherwise, browse the MIB Tree to find the OID.
  5. Show Advanced Options in order to choose data formatting.
  6. Select Keep Historical Data if you need to store the data for that device.
  7. Enable the poller if you want to start polling immediately.
  8. Select a group for your UnDP.
  9. On the next page, assign your UnDP to the nodes that need to be polled.
  10. Test that all the nodes are polled.
  11. Select how to display the UnDP and on what pages you want it displayed on the Web Console.
