Cause

This error occurs because of configuration issues or because of an issue with the Performance Counter Store on the machine. Or it could mean that the wrong class and counter names were chosen

Resolution

Verify the configuration based on what is visible in the performance monitor on the Windows machine or server:

  1. Open the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
  2. Go to Settings > SAM Settings > Manage Application Monitors.
  3. Edit the application monitor that is throwing the error.
  4. Expand the Performance Counter Monitor configuration.
  5. Establish a remote connection to the Windows machine.
  6. Go to Run and enter perfmon.
Note: You can also connect to Perfmon remotely from another machine.
  7. Add a performance counter.
  8. Find the counter in question by navigating through classes and then finding the name of the actual counter in question you're trying to add.
  9. Verify that the configuration matches the configuration in the following screenshot:

If the counter is not appearing in Perfmon, rebuild the Perfmon counters. Refer to Performance counters are not working or missing in PerfMon.
