Product section
Cause
This issue can occur due to one or more of the following conditions:
-
A version mismatch between the SolarWinds Platform and Patch Manager.
-
The Patch Manager Web API is not authenticated with the correct account type (Domain Account or Service Account).
-
Firewall rules for port 54092 are missing on the SolarWinds Platform server, the WSUS server, or both, preventing Web API communication between the two.
Resolution
Follow the steps below in order to resolve the issue.
Step 1: Enable Debug Logging for Troubleshooting
Before making any changes, enable debug-level logging on the SolarWinds Information Service to capture detailed diagnostic data.
-
On the SolarWinds Platform server, navigate to the following directory:
C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\InformationService\v3.0 -
Review the log files in this directory for any errors related to the Patch Manager module or Web API communication failures.
-
Keep this path accessible throughout the troubleshooting process, as logs generated here will help confirm each subsequent step.
Step 2: Upgrade the SolarWinds Platform to Match the Patch Manager Version
A version mismatch between the SolarWinds Platform and Patch Manager is a common cause of report errors.
-
Verify the currently installed Patch Manager version (e.g., Patch Manager 2026.1).
-
Navigate to Settings > All Settings > Orion Website > Web Console or check via the SolarWinds Installer to confirm your SolarWinds Platform version.
-
Upgrade the SolarWinds Platform to the latest supported version that corresponds to your Patch Manager version.
-
Ensure both components are on the same compatible version level.
-
Refer to the SolarWinds Platform and Patch Manager compatibility matrix for guidance.
-
-
Restart all SolarWinds services after the upgrade completes.
Step 3: Configure Web API Login with a Domain or Service Account
After the upgrade, the Patch Manager Web API must be authenticated using the correct account type.
-
Open the SolarWinds Platform Web Console on the SolarWinds Platform server:
https://<Your_Orion_Server_FQDN>/Orion/PM/Summary.aspx -
Log in to the Web API using a Domain Account or Service Account.
Important: Do not use a local account. The Web API requires a Domain Account or Service Account for proper authentication and communication with the WSUS server.
-
To verify the correct credentials, open the Patch Manager Console on the Patch Manager/WSUS server and navigate to:
Security and User Management
The account configured here is the one that should be used when logging in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console for Patch Manager operations.
Step 4: Configure Firewall Rules (Port 54092)
Port 54092 is required for Patch Manager Web API communication between the SolarWinds Platform server and the WSUS server. If this port is blocked, the report page will fail to retrieve data.
-
On both the SolarWinds Platform server and the WSUS server, add the following firewall rules:
Rule
Direction
Protocol
Port
Action
PM Web API
Inbound
TCP
54092
Allow
PM Web API
Outbound
TCP
54092
Allow
-
Ensure the rules are applied to the Domain and Private network profiles (and Public if applicable to your environment).
-
Restart the EminentWare Data Grid Server service on the Patch Manager server after applying the firewall changes.
Step 5: Verify the Fix
-
Open the SolarWinds Platform Web Console and navigate to:
https://<Your_SolarWinds_Platform_Server_FQDN>/Orion/PM/Summary.aspx -
Confirm that the Patch Manager Summary page now displays report data correctly without blank sections or errors.
-
If reports are still empty, run a WSUS Inventory task from the Patch Manager Console to refresh the data, then reload the Summary page.
