Polling Engine is down in Orion Platform

SNMP credential test failed due to down polling engine.

Overview

This article describes the issue when  Polling Engine is down and SNMP is not polling.

corebusinesslayer.log error : 

Error < ERROR SolarWinds.BusinessLayerHost.PluginInstanceAppDomain - Plugin "Core Business Layer" failed to start. System.ServiceModel.AddressAlreadyInUseException: Cannot listen on pipe name 'net.pipe://localhost/orion/core/businesslayer' because another pipe endpoint is already listening on that name. ---> System.IO.PipeException: Cannot listen on pipe name 'net.pipe://localhost/orion/core/businesslayer' because another pipe endpoint is already listening on that name.>

Cause

A copy of Solarwinds.Orion.Core.Businesslayer.dll. was in C:\:Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion. The system was trying to load the core business layer again and could not  as it was already loaded.


 

Resolution

Resolution 1:
  1. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion.
  2. Remove the copy of Solarwinds.Orion.Core.Businesslayer.dll.config save to a directory outside of C:\Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion.
  3. Restart the module engine.
 

Resolution 2:

  1. Stop all services
  2. Remove the "SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.dll." file from NCM installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion\NCM)
  3. Start all services
