Orion alert for sustained packet loss on a node

How can I be alerted if packet loss exceeds a fixed percentage for more than a predefined time limit?

Overview

This article describes how to create an alert that is triggered If node status is UP for more than 10 minutes, but packet loss percentage is more than 50% for 10 minutes.

Resolution

This can be achieved using 2 conditions in the alert and the built-in timer function:

Node status is equal to up.
Packet loss exceeds a defined percentage.
