Orion Web Console AD accounts are not refreshing when changing group membership

This article describes the issue when the Orion Web Console AD accounts are not refreshing when changing group membership. In addition, sporadic issues with false logins wherein an account shows a logout link in the upper right hand corner despite not being logged in.

Cause

This issue occurs when the Orion Web Console is not using forms authentication which can cause the false login and issues with the AD groups to not replicate.

Resolution

Edit the web.config found in c:\inetpub\solarwinds\ to the following:

<authentication mode="Windows">
    <forms loginUrl="~/Orion/Login.aspx"/>
</authentication>

and change it to (default):

<authentication mode="Forms">
    <forms loginUrl="~/Orion/Login.aspx"/>
</authentication>

After applying this, Orion should recognize the removal and addition of accounts into different AD groups.

Note: If the website is rebuilt, this change may need to be re-instated.
