Orion Syslogs and Traps Server not receiving messages due to insufficient disk space

This article provides information on why the Orion Syslogs and Traps Server is not receiving any messages and shows an Error: Could not allocate a new page for database 'SolarWindsOrionLog' because of insufficient disk space in filegroup 'PRIMARY'.

Overview

When using Orion Log Viewer or Log Analyzer, Syslog and Trap messages are not being received and the errors shown on the Orion server are (%programdata%\SolarWinds\Logs\OLM\BusinessLayer.log):

ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.LogMgmt.BusinessLayer.ScheduledTasks.PartitioningScheduler - OrionLog_EnsurePartitions call failed
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Could not allocate a new page for database 'SolarWindsOrionLog' because of insufficient disk space in filegroup 'PRIMARY'. Create the necessary space by dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup

Cause

Insufficient disk space in Database.

Resolution

Increase free space on the drive where the SolarWindsOrionLog database is located or delete data to free space on the OLV/LA database.

Create rules to discard unwanted Syslogs or Traps.

Adjust and optimize Syslogs and Traps retention setting on:

Orion Polling Settings (Legacy)

Orion Log Viewer/Log Analyzer Retention settings.
