Network Management
"Stop all services on Additional Polling Engines before proceeding the upgrade" after upgrading to SolarWinds Platform 2025.2 and above.
Starting in SolarWinds Platform 2025.2 and above, the upgrade process includes a check during the upgrade of the main polling engine (MPE) to stop all SolarWinds services on Additional Polling Engines (APEs). This change prevents issues during database schema upgrades and ensures a smooth upgrade experience.

Overview
Failure to stop services on APEs before upgrading the Main Polling Engine (MPE) can result in the Configuration Wizard getting stuck or failing with an error, as APEs with services still running can constantly access and lock tables that need to be upgraded. To mitigate this, beginning in SolarWinds Platform 2025.2, the Configuration Wizard will show a warning pop-up to stop the services on all APEs before continuing with the wizard.
Product section
Cause
This issue occurs due to a change in SolarWinds Platform 2025.2 (offline installer) and above to ensure APEs are not actively using the database while MPE updates the database schema.
Resolution
Upgrade to 2025.2 to resolve this process as this check is included in SolarWinds Platform 2025.2 and above during the offline installer upgrade process. This has been documented for previous releases via Upgrade an existing deployment.
To avoid introducing possible points of failure to your upgrade, ensure the services are stopped on all Additional Polling Engines and Additional Web Servers before beginning the upgrade.
