Overview

In the APM.BusinessLayer.log (C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\APM), the following error message may appear

ERROR SolarWinds.APM.BusinessLayer.TemplateGroupAssignment.ChangeProcessors.GroupChangeProcessor - Failed to process groups System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): The incoming request has too many parameters. The server supports a maximum of 2100 parameters. Reduce the number of parameters and resend the request.

Cause

This issue occurs because Microsoft SQL limits the number of parameters in the IN clause to 2100.  This may occur for SolarWinds Platform 2022.4 and below, where many nodes (3,000 or more) are assigned to a SAM template.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please upgrade to SolarWinds Platform 2023.1 and above.  If an upgrade is not possible, please perform the workaround below:

Restart APM BusinessLayer \ SolarWinds Information Service

    • SolarWinds Orion Module Engine
    • SolarWinds Information Service V3
