Never change SwisUriSystemIdentifier

NOTE: This error can be ignored. If you are receiving this after a recent upgrade, there will be little to no impact on your environment or operations. The SWIS URI System Identifier shows the hostname from the very first Orion Platform/SolarWinds Platform server the product was installed on. To avoid issues with connection to SWIS, you should never change the SWIS URI System Identifier. The identifier gets created when the database is created and the name is relatively arbitrary and not tied to an actual server at all.

Overview

NOTE: This error can be ignored. If you are receiving this after a recent upgrade, there will be little to no impact on your environment or operations.

The SWIS URI System Identifier must match the system identifier used in URIs saved in the database in alerts, groups, dependencies, limitations, or the World Map, in order for these information service entities to function properly.

SwisUriSystemIdentifier never updated is an intended behavior. This identifier is created when you deploy the Orion/SolarWinds Platform database. It must be a stable identifier, even when you rename machines.

Resolution

The SWIS URI System Identifier is created together with the Orion/SolarWinds Platform database, and it shows the hostname of the very first Orion Platform/SolarWinds Platform server the product was installed on. The SWIS URI System Identifier must match the system identifier used in URIs saved in the database in alerts, groups, dependencies, limitations, or the World Map. You should never change the SWIS URI System Identifier, otherwise, the SolarWinds Information Service (SWIS) entities in your deployment might not work properly.

Changing this value causes issues with the connection to SWIS. For example, some alerts can create alert definitions that still point to the old identifier (hostname). This is why the identifier must be stable even if the hostname changes.

SolarWinds recommends you avoid changing the Orion SWIS URI System Identifier. If you do change the value for SwisUriSystemIdentifier, please contact SolarWinds Support for help.
