Network Discovery In Orion Missing Port Mode Information

When running a network discovery job the Port Mode (Trunk vs Access) is not determined. Solarwinds is unable to determine Trunk vs access port information from cisco devices

Overview

Prior to version 2019.4 the port mode was determined via Topology calculations which could be hit or miss on network discovery for determining port mode during the import process of nodes.
There was an update introduced in 2019.4 which adds the polling method for polling the type of port (trunk or access) directly from the device instead of relying on topology calculations.
If you are using a version prior to 2019.4 you have blank or unknown status for your port mode.

Cause

Prior to 2019.4 Port mode was determined only by topology calculations.
With the introduction of 2019.4 Solarwinds introduced a new polling method for port mode which will poll from devices that support the CISCO-VTP-MIB the port mode type directly from OIDs on the device.

Resolution

Upgrade to 2019.4 or newer
