Netpath does not display all hops

NetPath service is showing the source, destination and one intermediary node instead of all intermediary devices.

Overview

Within some environments, the NetPath service may not be displaying all devices (all hops) expected on the path from source to destination. The following steps may not resolve all cases where there are missing intermediary nodes, but if your environment matches then it is worth applying the suggestion provided below.

Cause

Known issue with virtualized NIC drivers in virtual environments like VirtualBox, Xen and AWS.

Resolution

  1. Open C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Orion\NetPath\NetPathAgent.cfg with a text editor as an administrator.
  2. Save a copy of original NetPathAgent.cfg file as a backup.
  3. Stop the SolarWinds Job Engine v2 service.
  4. Change the following settings in the NetPathAgent.cfg file:
    "EnableAdvancedBpf": false,
    "TracerouteTimeout": 500,
  5. Save the file.
  6. Start the SolarWinds Job Engine v2 service.
