NTA service not starting after installation of Hotfix or upgrade

Overview

  • NTA Service is unable to start after an upgrade or installation of a Hotfix
  • NTA  Business layer Log Contains following ERROR;
C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\NTA

** Assembly SolarWinds.Netflow.IoC, Version=4.7.0.8139, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, .NET version v4.0.30319 ***
[9] ERROR SolarWinds.NetFlow.Service.Program - NetFlowService will be abnormally terminated - Unhandled exception.
System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer, Version=2019.4.5200.8890, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Cause

The Solarwinds Business layer DLL was Blocked preventing the NTA Service from starting.  
Path to DLL  "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion"
Full Filename 'SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.dll 
 

Resolution

The Error message is referencing a DLL file  "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer, Version=2019.4.5200.8890"

  1. From the Error message locate the File path of the DLL. 
  2. Confirm that  the Correct version Number of the DLL is present on the system

In this particular case, the DLL happened to be Blocked

To resolve

  1. Right Click on the dll File
  2. Select properties
  3. Unblock the dll File





If the dll file is missing, run a repair of the SolarWinds Platform via the Control Panel and complete the Configuration Wizard.
