After upgrading SolarWinds Platform, NTA database schema version is not supported or is a higher than supported by the current version

After performing a software upgrade of SolarWinds Platform, the configuration wizard may fail with the error message below and not completed.

Overview

After performing a software upgrade of SolarWinds Platform, the following error message may appear:

NTA Flow Storage database schema version 4060000 is not supported, required is 4070000. NTA service is suspended as it did not finish initialization

OR

NTA has detected that version of your existing NTA SolarWinds Platform DB schema (24020000) is higher than supported by current version (24010000). Please use compliant installation of NTA or configure NTA to new database.

Cause

This error message occurs when one of the following conditions are true:

  • Configuration wizard was not completed all the pollers and database schema has not be updated
  • Database schema does not match the version of the SolarWinds Platform
    • Pollers are running an old version of the SolarWinds Platform
    • Database was rolled back to an older version

It is important to understand the database schema is updated when the configuration wizard is ran on the main polling engine (MPE).

Resolution

To resolve the problem, perform one of the following scenarios:

Scenario 1: Database schema has not been updated to the latest version

This is a common problem if the SolarWinds Platform database was rolled back to a previous schema version.  If this is true, running the configuration wizard on the main polling engine will resolve this problem.  It is important to ensure running the configuration wizard is part of the operational steps when a database restore is completed.

  1. Run the configuration wizard on the main polling engine.
  2. Check the SQL Server for the flow storage.
  3. Change it to the correct SQL sever.
  4. Finish the configuration wizard on every poller.

Scenario 2: Database schema is higher then the SolarWinds Platform

  • If the database scheme is running a later version, upgrade the SolarWinds Platform to the same software version
  • If NTA database is not required, create a new NTA database instead of using an existing one.
