NCM config comparison between two configs never finishes for large config files

This article describes the issue when you do a comparison between 2 configs - the config-files (running vs startup) are very large (about 16.000 lines) and it does not finish the task. The first config you choose is loaded nearly instantly but as soon as the comparison begins, it does not continue. However, the comparison of smaller config files (1500-2000) works fine.

Overview

When you do a comparison between two configuration files (running vs startup) that are very large (about 16.000 lines), NCM sometimes does not finish the comparison.

The first config you chose is loaded nearly instantly but as soon as the comparison begins, it does not continue. However, the comparison of smaller config files (1500-2000) works fine.

Cause

This behavior is known in NCM with very large config files, which can crash the web browser, due to limitations on browser exceeding page sizing.

Resolution

Use the Config Change report Job when comparing large configs.
Upgrade to at least NCM 2020.2 or higher, these versions collapse unchanged lines and runs in a 64-bit process.
