Overview

This article provides information and steps to resolve the issue when the NCM Search function does not work properly. Try to schedule the troubleshooting steps below because downtime is necessary.

  • NCM search shows no results
  • NCM shows incomplete results

Product section

Network Configuration Manager

Cause

There may be several reasons for this:

  • There is a user set up in the NCM Settings>Advanced Settings>Network Share Settings, that does not have explicit rights to the Lucene folder
  • Too many configs stored in the NCM_Config Archive in the SolarWinds Platform Database
  • Configs that are too large for the parser and indexing component in NCM to handle

Resolution

If you are not on the latest version, SolarWinds recommends upgrading if possible.

Note: If the search is run immediately after a manual download, the new configuration may not show in the search results due to a small delay required to index the new content.

Try the following when the issue occurs:

  • Refine your searches.
  • If no results are shown:
    1. Click Settings > NCM settings > Search Settings.
    2. Disable and then enable the Search.
  • If no results are still shown, re-index the configuration search:
    1. Go to Settings > NCM Settings > Search Settings.
    2. Locate the "Enter a path for the index catalog on the main NCM server" field.
    3. Click "Apply" to force a re-indexing of the configuration search. (Note: Allow sufficient time for re-indexing to complete.)
    4. Optionally, you might need to restart Orion services if re-indexing does not start.
  • If indexing fails, perform the below:
  1. Open NCM settings -> Search settings, find the path to index catalog
  2. Remove all files from that directory
  3. Click 'apply' to run reindexing on configs
  4. Go to advanced settings ([http://yourSERVER/Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx])
  5. find the following:
    1. FtsMaxConfigPerNode settings and set it to 1.
LegacyTransferJobCollectorProcessing and set to enable (put a check)
  6. This setting is responsible to number of configs that is indexed per node. Then clear the indexing folder by:
  7. go to NCM settings -> Search Settings and find the path to index catalog on the main NCM server.
  8. Open this directory and remove all files that are located in this directory.
  9. Click the 'apply' button on the search settings page - it should trigger reindexing on all NCM configs.
  • If indexing still fails:
    1. Stop SolarWinds Module Engine.
    2. Go to the following path: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Cirrus\Lucene
    3. Delete all files in that directory.
    4. Restart the indexing
