Resolution

NCM is armed with a set of reports, including Cisco Inventory Reports. One of reports - Cisco Chassis IDs - lists devices' serial numbers for older Cisco devices using the Old Cisco MIBs. The Physical Entity (Serial Number v2) will gather the data on more recent devices and other vendors that support the Entity MIB. The data required to generate the report is collected during an Inventory Job which is executed on a scheduled basis.

To generate the report, you must:

  1. Make sure that the nodes have been added to NCM for management.
  2. Run an inventory report to collect information from the nodes.
  3. Run the report showing the serial numbers:
    1. From the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, choose Reports > All Reports.
    2. Group reports by Product and choose NCM Reports.
    3. For older Cisco devices, click the Cisco Chassis IDs report.
    4. For  other Cisco devices, click a Cisco 3750 - Physical Entity report.
    5. For other device types, choose the relevant report type. For descriptions of all NCM inventory reports, see Predefined NCM reports.
