NCM Config-Archive directory access fails with error "Unable to save text mirror copy. The config archive directory doesn't exist" after upgrading to SolarWinds Platform 2025.1

This article provides information about an issue that impacts environments using a network share path to save Config-Archive files in NCM after upgrading to SolarWinds Platform 2025.1. The issue prevents NCM from saving configuration archives to the designated network share and extends to other features in NCM that can use the Network Share Directory.

Overview

When using a network share path for Config-Archive storage in NCM, you may encounter failures when attempting to save configuration files. The issue is observed after upgrading to 2025.1.

In the NCM Business Layer log (NcmBusinessLayerPlugin.log), the following error message may appear:

ERROR SolarWinds.Cirrus.BusinessLayer.MirrorCopy.MirrorConfigCopy - Unable to save text mirror copy. System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: The config archive directory '\\<NetworkShareServer>\Application_Backups\Solarwinds\NCM-Archive' doesn't exist. In the NCM Config Settings please validate all config archive directories.

The other features the issue extends to are the following:

  • Jobs set to save job log to a file in a network share path.
  • Export Configs from Database job type pointed to a network share path.
  • Binary Config Storage set to network share path.
  • Firmware Repository set to a network share path.

Cause

This issue impacts SolarWinds Platform 2025.1 environments utilizing NCM, but only where network file shares are used to store configuration files in specific conditions in high availability. 

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please upgrade to SolarWinds Platform 2025.1.1 and above.  If an upgrade is not possible, please contact us to work with support on applying the buddy drop file for SolarWinds Platform 2025.1.

Important Note:

Running a SolarWinds Platform repair will remove or replace the Buddy Drop on the affected servers. If you perform a repair or run the Configuration Wizard, you must reapply the Buddy Drop.
