Monitoring network interfaces on a Windows server managed by WMI in Orion

This article describes how to monitor network interfaces on a Windows Server, which is polled in Orion through WMI.

NPM implemented WMI polling method does not support polling of interfaces and in such case you will have to use SNMP as a node polling method to obtain interfaces' data. Refer to Polling methods used by Orion.

If you own SAM, and have it deployed on the same system as NPM, you can monitor network interfaces on nodes managed through WMI.

In case of changing polling method from SNMP to WMI and intending to monitor interfaces you will have to:

Delete interfaces previously monitored through SNMP as they will now be displayed with no further data collected and status set to Unknown
After changing polling method to WMI you will have to List Resources for the node and select interfaces you intend to monitor

Note: Interfaces monitored via WMI using SAM do not count against NPM interface license count, nor do they count against SAM component monitor license count.
