Orion Platform 2020.2

Orion Platform 2020.2 adds support for further features for monitoring Nutanix objects.
 

Starting with VMAN 2020.2, you can:

• See Nutanix environment on Orion Maps.
• Monitor storage statistics (only available for users with a VMAN license).
• Run basic management actions on Nutanix VMs.

Orion Platform 2019.4

Starting with Orion Platform 2019.4, support for Nutanix objects was added to SAM and VMAN. See What you need to know about the Nutanix monitoring technical preview in VMAN, NPM, and SAM 2019.4.
 

Starting with Orion Platform 2019.4 (VMAN and SAM) you can do the following:

• Register Nutanix cluster into Orion
• Determine the Up/Down status for Nutanix clusters.
• Get Hardware Health data for Microsoft Hyper-v and VMware nodes in monitored clusters.
• Set up alerts to notify you if hardware issues occur for hosts with Nutanix clusters.
• See the status of servers, virtual clusters, and datastores in AppStack.

Orion Platform 2019.2 and earlier

What Nutanix objects can you monitor using the Nutanix UnDP?

• Clusters
• Containers
• Storage pools
• Disks

Monitored metrics include

• Latency
• IOPs
• Bandwidth utilization
• And more

Orion Platform 2019.4 and later

Nutanix objects are supported by default in SAM and VMAN 2019.4 and later. See Monitor Hardware Health for Nutanix clusters in the Orion Platform Administrator Guide.
To get the default support, upgrade your Orion Platform to 2019.4 or later.

Set up Nutanix monitoring in Orion Platform 2019.2 and earlier

1. Download the NutanixSNMPPollers.UnDP Universal Poller archive from the NUTANIX SNMP Pollers THWACK post, and extract the archive.

2. Log in to the server hosting your Orion Platform installation, start the UnDP tool, and import the poller.
3. Create a custom view for Nutanix devices , based on Node Details - Summary view.
4. Back in the UnDP tool, specify the Orion Web Console views where you want to see Nutanix statistics:
   1. In the All Defined Pollers section, right-click a Nutanix poller, and select Web Display.
   2. Select the Chart box for the new Nutanix Node Details View Summary you created in the previous step.
   3. Select a Nutanix Container Poller and click Web Display.
   4. Select the Table box for the Nutanix Node Details View - Summary.
      The tables and widgets for Nutanix are now available to be added on the Nutanix Node Details Summary view.
5. Go to the Nutanix view in the Orion Web Console, and add the Nutanix Resources to the view.
6. Add a Nutanix cluster to NPM.
   Before you launch the Orion Web Console, add an SNMP user on the Nutanix cluster, and note the credentials and the port (UDP 161).
   On the UnDP tab of the Add node wizard, make sure you select Nutanix cluster pollers that provide the information you want to see in NPM.
   After a few minutes, you can view the information in the Orion Web Console: Log in to the Orion Web Console, find the Nutanix cluster node in the All Nodes widget, and click the node name to open the node details view. However, it will be the default node details view.
7. Assign the custom Nutanix view to Nutanix nodes:
   1. In the Orion Web Console, go to Settings > All Settings, and click Views by Device Type.
   2. Find the Nutanix item under Object Type, select the Nutanix view in the neighboring drop-down, and submit the changes.
      Now when you click a Nutanix node, the custom Nutanix view with information polled by the custom poller opens.
8. Add the metrics specific for Nutanix to a table widget on the view.
   1. On the custom Nutanix details view, find the Tabular Universal Poller Resource. If it isn't there, add it.
   2. Click Edit, rename the widget, and select the poller that provides the required information.
