Missing File Extension When Report Title Contains Comma (,) in SolarWinds Platform
This article provides information about an issue in the SolarWinds Platform where exporting a report to Excel manually from the web interface results in a file name that is truncated and missing the .xlsx extension if the report title contains a comma (,).

Overview
When a report contains a comma (,) in its title, manually exporting it to Excel from the web interface may result in a file name that is cut off. The exported file may appear without the .xlsx extension or with part of the report name missing.
Scheduled exports using Report Scheduler → Save to Disk (Excel) are not affected; the file extension is preserved.
No error messages are logged in the SolarWinds system logs for this issue.

Cause
This issue occurs due to how the platform handles special characters (commas) in report titles during manual Excel export. The file name parser truncates the file name at the first comma, causing the .xlsx extension and remaining characters to be dropped.
Resolution
As of December 30, 2025, there is no permanent fix available.
The following steps provide a workaround:
- Use the Report Scheduler to export the report instead of manually exporting it from the web interface.
- Configure the scheduled export with the “Save to Disk (Excel)” action.
- The resulting file will contain the .xlsx extension.
As an additional workaround, the exported file can be manually renamed to include the desired file name and the .xlsx extension.
