Overview

SolarWinds Administration Service or often abbreviated as SWA is a service that is used to communicate between polling engines. This is especially useful when performing upgrades or centralized upgrades where the installer needs to install products based on the versions installed on the main polling engine of the instance.

Product section

Orion Platform

Cause

SWA component failed to upgrade on additional polling engine(s) after the last product upgrade.

Resolution

Check the SolarWinds Administration Service on each polling engine. If you're proficient with SQL, the OrionServers table contains the SWA version of every engine. You can also check manually through Programs & Features in the Control Panel of every polling engine.

  1. Find the correct SWA version installed on the main engine.
  2. Copy the MSI file from the installers directory to the additional polling engine installers directory that has the incorrect version. The installer will look similar to "SWA-X.X.X.xxxx-AdministrationService.msi"
    • C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Installers\
  3. Run the MSI.

Note: X.X.X.xxxx is the numerical version of SWA

If the correct version of msi is missing from the installer directory, then contact SolarWinds support.
