Migrate the NTA Flow Storage database from one SQL server to another

Overview

The steps below provide guidance to migrating the NTA Flow Storage database (in NTA 4.4 and later) from one SQL server to another.

Note: Following the steps below will create a new SQL database, and you will lose your flow data. If you want to keep them, the original Flow Storage database needs to be backed up and restored on the new SQL server.

  1. Run the SolarWinds Configuration wizard.
  2. On the page NTA Flow Storage Configuration - Select the SQL Server for NTA Flow Storage:
    1. Enter the new SQL server connection information.
    2. Use credentials with permission to create a new database.
    3. Click Next.
  3. On the page NTA Flow Storage Configuration - Select the SQL Server Database to create or select an existing database, select Create a new database, and click Next.
  4. Complete the Configuration wizard.
During the configuration wizard, it may be necessary to create a new NTA database user through the configuration wizard using a sysadmin role user such as 'sa' to resolve any connection issues. The following screenshots walk  through the NTA Flow Storage Configuration database user screens and give examples of how to create a new user of your choosing:



On Additional Polling Engine / Web / Main HA backup / Polling Engine HA backup

  1. Run the SolarWinds Configuration wizard.
  2. On the page NTA Flow Storage Configuration - Select the SQL Server for NTA Flow Storage, enter the new SQL server connection information, and click Next.
  3. On the page NTA Flow Storage Configuration - Select the SQL Server Database to create or select an existing database, select Use an existing database, and click Next.
  4. Complete the Configuration wizard.
