Migrate Serv-U on another server

Overview

Please refer to the resolution below to see the procedure on how to migrate Serv-U to another server. It can also be a reference when upgrading the OS of Serv-U to another server like from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2 or 2016. The process also includes the upgrade of Serv-U on another machine.

Resolution

  1. Backup Serv-U configuration, please refer to this link.
  2. Install Serv-U on the new server.
  3. Stop Serv-U service on the new server.
  4. Restore the backup files from step 1 such as (Serv-U.Archive, Serv-UID.txt and Users folder).
  5. For easy migration, copy the exact home directory structure on another server, same directory path if this is local drive home directories.
  6. Start the Serv-U service.
  7. Test the new server.
Please Note:
  • If migrating from Windows to Linux, same process is applied. However you will need to consider updating the home directory of your users if the home directory that you have from the Windows server does not exist in the Linux machine.
  • Bounce the Listener. Go to Domains > Domain Details > Listeners tab and bounce the Listener and assigned to the accurate IP Address of the new Server.
  • If you have custom images for your header logo, login page, please make sure to create a backup of it and paste on the same location after upgrade
