Resolution

  1. From Start > All Programs > SolarWinds CatTools > Click CatTools.
  2. Go to File > Database > Export. Export the devices and activities using the options highlighted in the screen shown below:

  3. Save the exported files which are in .txt format.
  4. Save the Variations folder from: <directory>\CatTools\
  5. If you are using CatTools 3.9 or a higher version, deactivate the current license using the License Manager.
  6. Install CatTools on the new system and license it.
  7. Copy the following files and folder from the old system to the new system:
    • Exported .txt files
    • Variations folder
  8. Open the Activities file and ensure that all paths are valid. For example, if CatTools was previously installed in c:\program files\ and is now installed in c:\program files (x86)\, you will need to reflect this path change within the TXT file.
    • Note: You can open the exported Activites file in a edit such as Microsoft Excel and edit in a manner like a xlsx or csv file. You see see fields with file paths that you can modify to reflect your new deployment:image.png
  9. Open CatTools Manager > File > Import > Import the two .txt files.
  10. Copy the Variations folder to the new CatTools installation directory.
  11. You will also need to copy the Kiwi Cattools Settings file which is saved as C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini from the older instance over to the new Install Folder to recover all your Menu Settings altogether.
  12. Restart the CatTools services.

This is an alternative procedure that can be used especially if the Kiwi CatTools program is not running anymore.

  1. Deactivate the Kiwi CatTools License using SolarWinds License Manager
  2. Copy the files and folders below from the old CatTools server to the new server.
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\Configs
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\Dated Configs
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\Reports
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\Templates
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\TFTP
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\Variations
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\KiwiDB-CatTools.kdb
    •  C:\Program Files (x86)\CatTools3\KiwiDB-CatTools.ldb
  3. Install Kiwi CatTools in the new server
  4. Stop the Kiwi CatTools service in the new server
  5. Paste the folders and files listed above and overwrite the existing ones in the new server
