Message received after configuring NTP servers in SEM: VM is configured to sync with host

Incorrect time synchronization can cause rules to not function. This article describes how to check the time in SEM, and also describes how to turn off SEM synchronization with the VMware host.

Overview

Incorrect time synchronization can cause rules to not function. This article describes how to check the time in Security Event Manager (formerly Log & Event Manager), and also describes how to turn off SEM syncronization with the VMware host. You may receive this message after configuring an NTP server(s) in SEM:

Resolution

To turn off SEM time synchronization with the VMware host in order to specify NTP servers.

  1. Go to vSphere Client.
  2. Go to SEM.
  3. Click the Summary tab.
  4. Go to VM Options, and then clear the Synchronize guest time with host check box.
  5. Click OK.


To synchronize time in SEM with NTP servers:

  1. Go to Putty or a vSphere Console.
  2. Under username, enter cmc.
  3. Type appliance, and then press Enter.
  4. Type ntpconfig, and then press Enter.
  5. Follow the onscreen prompts.
