Product section

Orion Platform

Cause

This issue occurs when one of the following conditions is true:

  • The file “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.cfg“ or “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.db“ is being held by a running process.
  • The file “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.db“ was accessed during the MIBs database upgrade process.
  • All SolarWinds Services are not shutdown properly

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please upgrade to SolarWinds Platform 2026.1.1 or later.  If an upgrade is not possible, please perform the following steps:

  1. Stop any service that is blocking access to MIBs.cfg or MIBs.db file.  This is typically the SolarWinds Orion Module Engine.
    • If the problem persists, it is recommended to stop all SolarWinds services
  2. If file “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.db“ exists but has a size of 0 bytes, delete it.
  3. Run the MIBs installer again as administrator

Alternatively, please try the following steps:

  1. Open up an Administrative Command prompt and run this command, replacing the path to where your *MIBsv2.msi is. It is located in C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers\ by default.
msiexec /i "C:\programdata\Solarwinds\Installers\MIBSv2.msi"

OR
msiexec /i "C:\programdata\Solarwinds\Installers\Observability-<SolarWinds Ver You are installing>-MIBsv2.msi
