Layer 3 polling disabled in UDT

This article goes over an issue that can occur whenever a user finds that the nodes they have in UDT are somehow being disabled for the Layer 3 polling under Node Properties.

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when the nodes in UDT are disabled for Layer 3 polling under Node Properties.

Resolution

This behavior was actually by design within UDT for earlier versions, when it was disabled. This is because :

  • Layer 3 polling on those nodes is not returning ARP data
  • the polling job has failed several times due to failure to respond on the device
  • there is no support for the ARP data tables in SNMP

These early versions of UDT disabled the layer 3 polling in this event to cut down on the amount of unnecessary polling jobs it was doing to decrease polling impact.

In some cases however, this can be detrimental for layer 3 polling in UDT. Such cases would be when the devices are brought down for maintenance, network outages or any other occurrence that results in the node being inaccessible or reachable by UDT. The same design will not work in reverse in such a regard: the polling will remain disabled even in the event the node returns.

We have a known issue with this and was tagged as BUG by Development Team and has been addressed in UDT 2020.2.6. Please upgrade to at least this version to address the issue.
