Kiwi CatTools NG displays “Service Connection Required” after migration

Overview
After migrating from legacy Kiwi CatTools, Kiwi CatTools NG may display “Service Connection Required” and prevent activities from being managed or executed. Activity saves may also fail with an encryption-schema error.
Product section
Cause
The Kiwi CatTools NG interface was configured to connect to 127.0.0.1:50051, while the Activity Scheduler service was listening on port 40000. Because the UI and service used different gRPC ports, the service connection could not be established.
The activity-schema error was a separate database migration issue.
Resolution
-
Stop Kiwi CatTools NG and the SolarWinds Kiwi CatTools NG Activity Scheduler service.
-
Open the Kiwi CatTools NG configuration files and restore the following setting for both the UI and Activity Scheduler:
GrpcSettings:Port = 50051 -
Identify and stop or reconfigure any other process using TCP port
50051. -
Start the SolarWinds Kiwi CatTools NG Activity Scheduler service.
-
Verify that the service is listening on TCP port
50051. -
Reopen Kiwi CatTools NG and test the service connection.
-
Run one activity using Run now. After it completes successfully, verify the scheduled activity.
-
If the activity-schema error persists, do not manually modify encrypted database records. Contact SolarWinds Support and provide:
- Kiwi CatTools NG UI debug logs
- Activity Scheduler logs
- Migration logs
- The migrated
.dbdatabase - The original
.kdbdatabase - The current
appsettings.jsonfiles
NOTE: Alternate-port communication between the Kiwi CatTools NG interface and Activity Scheduler was not validated as a supported end-to-end configuration for this build. Use the default port 50051.
