Java VM needed in DPA

DPA needs a Java Virtual Machine (i.e. a JRE or JDK) in order to run. It installs one by default when it is installed on a supported OS. But if necessary, you can install one yourself.

Overview

DPA is a web-based application written in Java. It therefore needs a Java Virtual Machine (i.e. a JRE or JDK) in order to run. When DPA starts up the first time, it searches for a JRE or JDK that is already installed on the server.

Note: This typically does not happen on supported operating systems because DPA ships with the appropriate JRE.

Resolution

If DPA does not find the a JRE/JDK of the required version, perform the following steps to complete the DPA installation:

  1. See the appropriate DPA System Requirements to determine what Java version is required for the version of DPA you are running.
  2. Download and install a new JRE/JDK using one of the links on this site: https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
  3. Delete the DPA_home/iwc/tomcat/ignite_config/cat.txt file.
  4. Restart DPA.
    • On a UNIX-based OS, run shutdown.sh and then startup.sh.
