Overview

The interface chart displays recent data correctly, but for older data, you see only dots instead of a line.

Cause

This is caused by hourly data being no longer available. The default interface for hourly data retention period is 30 days.
If the chart extends beyond 30 days, or if hourly retention has been reduced to less than the time length of the chart, dots will appear instead of lines.

Resolution

Resolve this issue by setting the chart sample interval to Once a day, or by increasing the Interface Statistics hourly retention interval.

To change the chart settings

  1. On the chart you having the issues with, click Edit.
  2. Set Sample Interval to Once a Day.
  3. Click Submit.

To change the retention settings:

  1. Go to Settings > Polling Settings.
  2. Change Hourly Statistics Retention to a point greater than the length of the report.

Note: Changing the chart and retention settings result in a slightly larger database. And changing retention will not immediately change the chart display; lines will extend one day further at a time until the full chart is populated.
