Resolution

For versions from LEM 6.3.1 HF6 to SEM 6.5:
  • If you have LEM 6.3.1 HF6 and the latest connector update pack as of 23-Aug-2017, then you should see the Synology connector in your LEM appliance under agent nodes or Appliances.
  • If you do not see the Synology connector with an automatic connector update, then use the manual connector update as per steps here.
  • Once the connector update is applied successfully:
    • If using logging via the SEM Agent, go to the Synology agent node under SEM web console > Manage > Nodes > Select the node > configure connector > Search for Synology and configure the log location.
    • If logging via Syslog, go to SEM web console > Manage > Appliances > Select the node > configure connector > Search for Synology and configure the log location > The default location /var/log/user.log should be fine > Save and start the connector. After a minute or two you will probably see a "new nodes found" message in SEM console.
For SEM 6.6 and newer, find your connectors in the HTML5 SEM Events Console.
  1. In the SEM Events Console, click the Nodes tab.
  2. Under Refine Results, expand the Type group, and then select the Agent check box.
  3. Select an agent, and then click Manage node connectors.
    -or-
For Manager connectors, click the Manager Connectors tab to view configured and available connectors.
  4. Find the connector to configure. Type Synology in the search box, or use the filter menus in the Refine Results panel.
  5. Select an available connector, and then click Add Connector.
  6. Complete the connector configuration form. The following fields are common across most connectors:
    • Name: Enter a user-friendly label for your connectors.
    • Log File: Enter the location of the log file that the connector will normalize. This is a location on either the local computer (Agents), or the SEM appliance (non-Agent devices).
    • Output: Normalized, Raw + Normalized, Raw. You only need to configure these values if SEM is configured to save raw (unnormalized) log messages.
  7. Click Add.
  8. To start a connector, select a configured connector, and then click Start.
