Overview

This article describes how to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 so you can upgrade from WPM 2.2.1 to later versions. This issue is known to be experienced when upgrading from WPM 2.2.1 to later versions. This is due to the fact that the WPM upgrade process first removes the old WPM version before installing the later version you are upgrading to. In order to execute the old executable that uninstalls WPM 2.2.1, you must have .NET Framework 3.5.

Cause

The Orion Installer requires .NET Framework 3.5 to remove WPM 2.2.1 and proceed with upgrading.

Resolution

Navigate to the Microsoft Download Center (© 2018 Microsoft Corp., available at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ils.aspx?id=21, obtained on May 10, 2018).
Select the language for your operating system.
Click Download.
Follow the onscreen prompts to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.
Run the Orion Installer and upgrade to the latest version of WPM.
