Install SEM (Adobe Air) Console

This article provides a steps to install and configure the stand alone Adobe Air-based SEM console to allow access to features and functions provided by the Legacy Console of the Security Event Manager (formerly Log & Event Manager) virtual appliance.

Note: With Adobe Flash Player being EOL, we recommend all customer to use the HTML5 console as much as you can.  

Adobe Flash Console is already at the EOL stage hence, any issue related (connection,certificate etc) won't be covered by support. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND using the HTML5 Console

Security Event Manager

With Adobe Flash Player being EOL on 31st Dec 2020, SEM flash console will no longer be working on Systems that have the latest Web browser updates installed.

Workaround (Does not work for SEM ver 2022.4.1 and higher):

Obtain Required Components:

To use the Standalone Console we need to download both the Adobe Air Runtime and the Standalone Console application from your Solarwinds customer portal

1. Login to https://customerportal.solarwinds.com and go to Download > Products > Security & Events Manager and download below from the "Additional Downloads" section, place and extract them in the same folder 
   • Adobe AIR Console Installer - This is the SEM Air Legacy Console (Select the same version as your current SEM/LEM)
2. Unfortunately, Adobe Air Runtime for Windows is not already available in the Customer Portal, however, you can download it from this alternative link here
3. Now you need to extract and install first the "Adobe AIR" package
4. After the Adobe AIR, you can now right-click and install the extracted "SolarWinds-SEM-xxxx.x-Console.air" - the SEM Adobe AIR Console Installer  
5. Once Installed, you will be presented with the login prompt. Enter your SEM login credentials.
6. If you are installing the SEM Air Console post to Adobe Flash EOL issue, then once logged in you by default, you should be able to see your appliance. Else proceed with Step 7. 
7. Select the Manage >  Appliances > Select your appliance > under "Properties" enter the Login credentials. 
8. If you have not set up a user on the SEM and you have access to the admin user, you can use that to login to the console, otherwise, you can use the SEM user that you have set up previously. (Refer below Screenshot)

9. If you prefer to use the secure port to access the SEM, change the port number to 8443.
10. If you are on a SEM instead of a SIM, choose Virtual from the Model section.
11. Save your login information and login to the SEM.

(optional) Import SSL Certificate from SEM:

1. Export your SEM's SSL Certificate (if not exported during activation) using the exportcert command from the Manager section of the CMC. 
2. Then double click the certificate from your local machine and import it to your Trusted Root Certificate Authorities as well as the Trusted Publishers.
