Increase SEM memory reservations in VMware vSphere

This Security Event Manager (SEM) article shows you how to increase the memory reserved in vSphere. Refer to these steps to increase VMware memory reservations if SEM performance is slow or under-performing. You must reserve the same amount of RAM memory in vSphere that is allocated to SEM.

Overview

This article shows you how to increase RAM memory reservations in VMware vSphere. You must reserve all of the memory that is allocated to Security Event Manager (formerly Log & Event Manager) in vSphere.

EXAMPLE:

If you have 32GB RAM allocated to SEM you MUST have 32GB reserved in the vSphere hypervisor.

Resolution

  1. Power off the VM from SEM before configuring the memory settings.
  2. Using PuTTy or vSphere Console:

    Open cmc > enter "appliance" > enter "shutdown"

    Note:  Wait until SEM has shutdown.

Continue with the procedure below:

  1. In the vSphere client, right-click the SEM virtual machine from the inventory, and then select Edit Settings.
  2. In the Virtual Machine Properties window, select the Resources tab, and then select Memory.
  3. In the Resource Allocation panel, select the Reserve all guest memory (All locked) check box.
  4. Click OK.


The SEM virtual machine memory is now fully reserved.
