Overview

The most common result is that the SQL Sentry Client will not launch and fails with the below message. Monitoring services in the environment will likely also be down.

Product section

SQL Sentry (SQLS)

Cause

The above error comes up when you have updated the SQL Sentry / SentryOne database using an EPI installation and are using an older Unified installer to connect to it. The other occurrence of this behavior is if you are connecting with an older or newer Client onto an older or newer version of the SQL Sentry / SentryOne database.

Resolution

Upgrade all environments using the same installer version used for the DB upgrade, or roll back the SQL Sentry / SentryOne database using a DB backup and install a version of the Client that matches the DB. It is recommended that you either have all EPI or all Unified installations.

If you would like to use an EPI and Unified installation in different environments, they would need to be the same version number. It is typically not recommended due to the different folder structures and DB objects. This can also cause problems, as mentioned in this article, where the upgrade is only partially pushed to all locations.
