Overview

This article describes how to run the SolarWinds REST Walker.
 

This tool collects data using Representational State Transfer (REST) technology to gather API-specific data for investigation and testing purposes. The response is stored as a context.txt  file in the folder structure based on the request. 

 

You can add technologies by implementing specific plug-ins. The required interfaces necessary for implementing a plug-in are described in this article.

Resolution

 

  • Log in to the server hosting your SolarWinds Platform Application.
  • Navigate to installation folder.
    • DRIVE:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion 
      • Prior to 2023.x: DRIVE: \Program Files (x86)\Solarwinds\Orion\RestWalker
      • 2023.x and beyond: DRIVE:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\
  • Run the following application.
    • SolarWinds.RestWalkerWpfApp.exe
  • Select Output Directory.
  • Select the Plugin depending on type of device.

    • GCP Plugin
    • Azure
    • Dell Power Store
    • Extreme Cloud IQ
    • F5 iControl

  • Choose the certificate validation.
    • Full
    • Base
    • IgnoreAll
  • In the Location, enter the URL or the IP address of the management URL.
  • Enter the Credentials used for authentication.
  • Click Collect Walk.
    • NOTE: The tool automatically creates a ZIP file in the Output directory.
  • Send the ZIP file to SolarWinds Technical Support.

 

TROUBLESHOOTING

REST Walker saves its logs file in c:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\ in files named RestWalker.log(*).
